How to Raise a Massage Therapist... It Takes a Village!

For many careers, education comes in the form of lecture, readings, and book work. There is a disconnect between educator and student.

In the field of massage, education of new massage therapists comes in a more diverse form.

It comes from the administrative staff. The admissions staff who reach out into the world with the intention of touching the hearts of the right people. The Directors who work tirelessly to ensure the campus runs as smoothly as possible, while also keeping the compass in line with the mission and values that the school, and the profession, embody. The clinic staff who provide the support necessary to run the student clinic in an efficient manner, giving students a chance to develop confidence in their own skills through practice.

It comes from research and lectures, but also from experienced instructors who are trained in skills transfer. Instructors who come to the table with varied backgrounds, but always with the same intention – to teach and mentor the next generation of massage therapists.

It comes from a curriculum that has been time-tested, refined, and re-evaluated often. One that has met and surpassed accreditation standards and provides students with more open doors upon graduation.

It comes from the social interactions, study groups, and interpersonal relationships that develop among classmates. This sense of community and support is often the anchor for students who may be struggling. Some of these connections run so deep that they become lifelong.

It comes from the gradual exposure to real-life scenarios in the student clinic, where the public comes in with their complex needs and complaints, and patiently allow the students to perform their assessment, and think critically, on-the-spot, to develop an effective treatment plan.

It comes from the intentions and desires of the faculty and staff to train competent, considerate, and enthusiastic massage therapists who can then meet the massage needs of folks in their own communities.

It takes all of us in our diverse roles to educate and influence the next generation of massage therapists. This is a task that we do not take lightly, and we are so proud of our students and alumni as they continue to learn and grow and offer their services with sensitivity and caring.
