Sept. 9 & 10, 2023
Comprehensive Orthopedic Assessment of the Shoulder
Instructor: Andrew Caissie, BSc,RMT
This course will increase the therapist's confidence in differentiating disease states and tissue manifestations while collecting usable information to support treatment planning and reassessment.
Beginning with a review of structures of the shoulder region with a focus on the mechanics of the glenohumeral joint, the first day of this workshop will take each participant through a systematic analysis of the region with the expected observation and performance of the shoulder in standard orthopedic testing. Gross observation, palpation, postural assessment, range of motion testing, muscle length and strength assessment, and neurological testing will be covered. An emphasis on using joint play as assessment will conclude the first day.
Day two of the seminar will review the clinical presentation and mechanism of injury of common shoulder region pathologies, focusing on how each condition alters basic assessment findings and practicing the special orthopedic testing to rule in or rule out each condition.
